Spencer Hudnut on if Rip and Beth will appear in Marshals
Spencer Hudnut addressed whether Yellowstone characters Rip Wheeler and Beth Dutton could appear in CBS’s Marshals. Asked about a potential guest appearance, Hudnut gave a noncommittal response about their involvement. He told TVLine, “You know, Kayce still has a sister and brother-in-law who are out there, so, that’s always potentially on the horizon. I don’t know how we would make all that work.”
In Marshals season 1, episode 2, Kayce Dutton speaks with his son Tate about who will manage East Camp after Kayce begins working as a U.S. Marshal. Kayce reveals that Rip has already arranged temporary help at the ranch until a permanent solution is found. He says, “Rip found some hands ’til I can find a more permanent solution.”
Hudnut also confirmed that characters from the Yellowstone universe will appear during the first season of the spinoff. He said, “We have a couple of characters who will pop up this season who are from [the ‘Yellowstone’] universe.” His comments indicated that Rip and Beth are not currently confirmed for Marshals season 1.
The dialogue between Kayce and Tate provided an update on Rip’s activities following the end of Yellowstone in December 2024. The series established that Beth and Rip moved to a ranch in Dillon, Montana after the original show concluded. Their move positioned them outside the main setting of the spinoff.
Hudnut also stated that the series maintains an open approach to appearances by characters from the broader Yellowstone franchise if the story allows it. Marshals airs new episodes Sundays on CBS at 8:00 PM ET and 5:00 PM PT. Rip Wheeler and Beth Dutton are also slated to lead the upcoming Yellowstone spinoff The Dutton Ranch on Paramount+. The series will feature them as central characters onscreen.
