Technology company F12 Consult supports UK mountain rescue teams with new medical app

A Huddersfield-based technology consultancy has developed a new Mountain Rescue Medical App which supports volunteer search-and-rescue teams operating in remote and challenging terrain.

F12 Consult Ltd, which specialises in cloud platforms, IoT and telematics systems, has created the app, now in use by Mountain Rescue England and Wales personnel and trainees.

The app provides rapid access to the latest clinical field guidance for managing trauma and medical incidents in remote areas.

The app runs on both iOS and Android and works entirely off-line to ensure rescuers always have access to up-to-date advice.

What makes the delivery noteworthy was the development process. F12 Consult applied agent-assisted AI coding tools, including OpenAI Codex.

But instead of replacing human oversight, the AI tools were used to accelerate routine and repetitive coding tasks, enabling developers to focus on architecture, safety-critical design decisions and rigorous review.

Phil Hey, CEO of F12, said the result was a faster turnaround and approximately 25% cost reduction compared to a traditional build, without compromising on quality or reliability.

“We treat AI tools as teammates, not magic bullets,” he said. “Human expertise remains essential when building software that could influence real-world health outcomes.

“What AI offers is speed on the ‘glue work’ — the repetitive, structural parts of engineering, so our engineers can apply their judgment where it matters most.”

The app is being used in actual rescues and training and was featured in the Winter 2026 edition of Mountain Rescue Magazine.

F12 is based at Bates Mill in Milford Street in Huddersfield town centre.
