Hong Kong authorities have issued a fresh warning against travel to Iran, while at least nine flights to the Middle East from the city have been cancelled or delayed following a joint US-Israeli attack on the country.
The warning was issued in response to the United States and Israel launching major air strikes on targets across Iran on Saturday, in what appeared to be one of the most direct and expansive attacks on the country in years.
Hong Kong’s Security Bureau said residents should adjust their travel plans and avoid non-essential travel to Iran, including leisure trips.
“Since late February 2026, tensions in the Middle East have escalated,” the new alert said.
“The government reminds Hong Kong residents who intend to visit Iran or are already there should exercise caution, attend to personal safety, pay attention to local announcements on the latest situation and notices on consular services from the Chinese embassy [or] consulate-general in Iran.”
Hong Kong’s travel alert for Iran has remained at the second-highest level of “red” since August last year, representing a “significant threat” for travellers from the city.
