Scary Movie 6 is already building buzz, and now the film’s first trailer finally has a major theatrical rollout plan. During a recent podcast appearance, Marlon Wayans revealed when audiences can expect their first official look at the long-awaited comedy sequel.
Scary Movie 6 to release first trailer in front of Scream 7
Wayans recently teased the rollout strategy during an appearance on the Rap Attack Official podcast, confirming that the debut trailer will drop on February 27. According to him, the footage will play exclusively in theaters alongside Scream 7, a fitting pairing given the franchise’s long history of spoofing the Ghostface saga. “When you see Scream, you’ll see Scary Movie 6 trailer,” Wayans said.
The upcoming movie signals a comeback for the once-unstoppable parody series that kicked off with Scary Movie. That original hit, directed by Keenen Ivory Wayans and led by Marlon Wayans and Shawn Wayans, crushed the box office by roasting popular horror films and quickly spawned multiple sequels.
Plot details for Scary Movie 6 are still locked in the vault, but Wayans has teased that it brings back familiar faces and fan-favorite characters like Shorty, Cindy, and Brenda Meeks. “We got everybody back,” Wayans said.
Once again, the character will get tossed into over-the-top horror situations, then milk every ounce of comedy from the madness. Helmed by Michael Tiddes, the project is being positioned as both a reboot and a nostalgic continuation for longtime fans.
The Scary Movie franchise ultimately grew to five installments released between 2000 and 2013. It built its brand on rapid-fire jokes, wild parody beats, and nonstop pop-culture callouts. Critics were often split on the films.
However, at the box office, the series kept showing up and cashing checks. The original movie landed in the mid-range on IMDb and pulled in solid audience scores on Rotten Tomatoes, proving fans stayed interested in it even when reviews were mixed.
Scary Movie 6 is scheduled to open in theaters on June 12, 2026.
