A new greenway ramp connecting the East Bank to the John Seigenthaler Pedestrian Bridge was approved by the Metro Sports Authority Board Feb. 19.
It’s one more step in a long line of infrastructure projects needed to improve pedestrian, vehicle and other transportation access throughout the East Bank and surrounding the new Nissan Stadium.
The project is estimated to cost $25 million, and funding is set to ultimately come out of the Authority’s Eligible Project Fund, established alongside the new stadium deal to support ongoing projects on the Titans Stadium footprint on the East Bank. The Titans will take on the design and construction process for the greenway connector in collaboration with the Metro Nashville Planning Department and other key stakeholders.
The new stadium is expected to be completed in just a year from now. The greenway connector will take approximately 18 to 22 months to design and construct.
Construction continues at the new Nissan Stadium in Nashville, Tenn., Tuesday, Sept. 9, 2025.
The greenway connector will serve as an entry and exit point for the pedestrian bridge. It is a separate project from the other upgrades needed for the bridge. Those enhancements will eventually require the east section of the bridge to be closed and raised up, so that it can connect all the way to the new stadium, with a portion going over the forthcoming East Bank Boulevard.
“The connector is not the pedestrian bridge,” said Metro Nashville Finance Director Jenneen Reed, during a presentation to the board Feb. 19. “Those are two very distinct projects… We are planning, thinking ahead and working on the timeline.”
Because the greenway connector design and construction will begin immediately, it will be completed before any other portion of the pedestrian bridge is closed for construction. That means people will be able to walk across the river to get to the East Bank by using the connector throughout any future construction phases.
This is crucial for the team and event attendees on the East Bank, according to Titans Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Daniel Werly. He said more than half of Nissan Stadium event attendees use the pedestrian bridge to get over to the site.
When will Nashville’s new Titans Stadium be open?
According to the team’s presentation to the board, the new Titans Stadium is about 363 days away from substantial project completion.
“The countdown clock is really starting to tick for us,” said new stadium project executive Kellen DeCoursey.
That means the new stadium is still on track to be completed by the first quarter of 2027, just about a year away from now. According to the project website, the structure will have permanent power by the second quarter this year, and seats will be installed by the end of 2026. There were more than 2,000 workers on the construction site on Tuesday, Feb. 17, a new peak.
