Even though Dusan Vlahovic is sidelined until March following recent surgery on a high grade adductor injury, the 25-year-old is on the wanted list of Liverpool.
The Premier League champions sit fifth going into Christmas, after some recent blips, and are seeking a replacement for their injured marquee signing Alexander Isak.
Sweden international Isak got injured at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, with a suspected broken leg that will keep him out for the rest of the season. This means that the Reds have a goal to make an urgent move next month.
Juve pair monitored by Premier League champs
Liverpool are in the mix for Juve’s emerging superstar Kenan Yildiz, but their scouts have also alerted the management teams of the highly sought after Juve striker Vlahovic.
Although there is a gentleman’s agreement between Serie A’s highest paid player and Juventus to enter contract extension talks in the summer, an opportunity to tackle the Premier League has been Vlahovic’s dream since he fell out of favor under Igor Tudor.
Juventus could be tempted to cash in on Vlahovic, who becomes a free agent in the summer, and the chance to dramatically trim their wage bill. The Serbia star striker has been the club’s top scorer every season since he arrived from rivals Fiorentina in January 2022.
Vlahovic is on AC Milan’s wishlist, where he would be reunited with ex-Bianconeri boss Max Allegri. He currently has no intention of renewing at the offer tabled by the Juventus board, which is a substantially lower figure than his wages he has earned since joining the Turin titans.
Liverpool check out Vlahovic
Reports in the English media indicate that Liverpool have already been in contact with Juve about Vlahovic’s availability, with a figure suggested of around €20 million (US$23.5m). Should he join the Reds, Vlahovic would be reacquainted with former Juventus winger Federico Chiesa, who joined Liverpool in August 2024.
Although Chiesa has not made much of an impact in the Premier League, bringing in Vlahovic could improve his performances while the striker is capable of being a regular goalscorer with a leading role. The chance to chase silverware, which appears out of reach at Juventus, is another temptation for Vlahovic to move to Liverpool.
Yet there are risks for Liverpool to secure the Serbia star’s signature next month. His rare injury means that he will not be immediately match fit, and he will need to swiftly adapt to the pace and physicality of the Premier League.
Juventus manager Luciano Spalletti inherited a lightweight squad, and has already experienced his fair share of injuries to pivotal players. His tactical approach is currently paying dividends, with the former Italy head coach coping without such key players as Vlahovic.
