Julian Nagelsmann thinks Germany has challenges in Group E

For most fans of the German national team, the draw was extremely favorable as the Germans are grouped with Ecuador, Ivory Coast, and Curaçao.

For head coach Julian Nagelsmann, a challenge awaits.

“It’s not a super easy group, but a manageable one. We want to win our group stage matches. The most important thing is to take it one step at a time, to get through the groups and advance to the knockout stage – not taking the second step before the first. Every opponent deserves respect. But I think it’s also perfectly normal to consider whom you might face in the next rounds and whom you need to beat to go far,” said Nagelsmann (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). “Curaçao will be interesting to analyze. But we won’t make the mistake of underestimating them. Ivory Coast is a team that can be beaten, but should not be underestimated. Ecuador won’t be easy to play against. They have 3-4 real top stars, they finished second behind Argentina in the qualifiers.”

Behind closed doors, Nagelsmann had to be thrilled with the result — no matter what he says publicly. On paper, the Germans look likely to advance pass the group stage of the World Cup for the first time since 2014.
