‘Not The Kind That He Likes’

Bryan Kohberger‘s latest objection to life in prison involves the fruit on his tray. According to reports, the convicted killer has complained about the bananas he is being served at mealtime.

This is just one of many complaints the 31-year-old has made since his transfer to the Idaho Maximum Security Institution, where he is serving four consecutive life sentences for a quadruple homicide.

Bryan Kohberger was accused of killing Kaylee Goncalves, Xana Kernodle, Ethan Chapin, and Madison Mogen, and in July, he signed a plea deal admitting to the allegations.

Life in prison still seems challenging for Kohberger, and he has no qualms about regularly airing his complaints to the authorities at IMSI.

His latest grievance, according to reports, concerns the bananas served with some of his meals. While it’s unclear how often the fruit appears on his tray,  a source has revealed that it’s simply not to his liking.

“They’re not the kind that he likes,” retired homicide detective Chris McDonough revealed to the Daily Mail. “I’m not sure if that means they may have bruises on them, and he doesn’t like that, or if there is a particular type of banana that he likes. But he’s complaining about the food he’s getting.”

“You can’t make this stuff up, right? The guy is a quadruple killer, and he’s complaining about his bananas not being the type that he likes,” the former police officer added.

The Idaho Killer’s Complaints Are About ‘Power And Control’

Overall, Kohberger has been incarcerated for nearly three years, with part of that time spent in county jails awaiting trial and the rest at IMSI, where he is serving four consecutive life sentences for a quadruple homicide.

During this period, he has gained notoriety in the media for his crimes, and McDonough suggested that this infamy is likely a reason why the former PhD student has continued to voice his complaints.

“It’s about power and control,” the Cold Case foundation employee suggested. “He was a nobody until he murdered four people… he was irrelevant to the world.”

“And now he’s Bryan Kohberger, who has slaughtered four people. And, because he didn’t have to stand up in court and tell the world how brutal these crimes were, he holds the cards. And he’s trying to leverage that,” McDonough added about the 31-year-old.

According to McDonough, Kohberger’s complaints aren’t going to stop anytime soon.

“[He is] going to keep pushing the envelope and pushing the boundaries as far as he can get them,” McDonough noted.

Just days after arriving at IMSI, the convicted criminal complained about not being able to access JPay, the system used for sending money to an inmate’s trust account.

He also once filed a complaint about submitting a “supply request” but never receiving his supply bag.

Another grievance he shared was a request for relocation to another cell after fellow inmates launched a relentless campaign of taunts at him upon his arrival at the facility.

While some of his earlier complaints were later addressed with clarifications about how the prison system works, Kohberger’s latest gripe may well go unattended.

“The prison is saying, well, deal with it,” the retired detective further revealed about the matter.

Idaho Killer Was Ordered To Pay His Victims’ Families Restitution

Outside of prison, Kohberger was embroiled in a legal back-and-forth over paying restitution to his victims’ families.

Earlier in the month, the judge who presided over his trial, Judge Steven Hippler, ordered the former criminology student to pay the restitution.

Kohberger’s lawyers had tried to argue that he had no money to do so, but the appeal wasn’t granted.

According to Hippler, Kohberger has no excuse not to comply, as he has received donations and continues to receive them.

In a previous hearing, Hippler shared that the convicted criminal had received “five figures” in donations since his incarceration.

At the time Judge Hippler ordered the killer to pay restitution, he also pointed out that Kohberger can earn money through work in prison, as many inmates do.

To further ensure that Kohberger meets the requirement, Hippler noted that the 31-year-old could attempt to monetize his story to any interested parties, for example, through a book or movie deal.

Kohberger’s restitution fees reportedly total over $350,000, including payments for the funeral expenses of his victims.
