Following a series of teasers, Onyx has officially announced the Boox P6 Pro – its latest smartphone-sized e-reader. This one is notable because it adds cellular connectivity with full 5G support and also comes in a special version with a Kaleido 3 color E Ink screen with 4096 colors, similar to what we’ve seen on Amazon’s Kindle Colorsoft models.
Boox P6 Pro also comes in a regular monochrome E Ink screen version using a Carta 1300 screen. Both measure 6.13 inches in diagonal and feature some sizable bezels around the screen. The one advantage of the color E Ink model is the added stylus support.

Both feature etched glass panels and 824 x 1,684 px resolution and automatic brightness adjustment. You also get stereo speakers and a single rear-facing 16-megapixel camera, which will be useful for scanning QR codes.
The P6 Pro series comes with an unspecified eight-core Qualcomm Snapdragon chipset paired with 8GB RAM and 128GB storage. You can also expand the storage thanks to the onboard microSD card slot. The P6 Pro models boot Boox OS 4.1 based on Android 13 and support dual-band Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 5 connectivity. They also get 3,950 mAh batteries with 15W charging over USB-C.
Boox P6 Pro starts at CNY 2,516 ($353) for the monochrome display model which comes in white. The color E Ink version, which comes in black, goes up to CNY 2,991 ($420). Both will be available in China from October 15. Onyx has yet to detail international availability.
