As fans gear up for the release of James Gunn‘s Superman, the first theatrical entry in his revamped DCU, the acclaimed filmmaker has come out to provide a crucial update on the movie’s development. James Gunn confirms the ‘last visual effect shot’ for Superman was added to wrap movie
James Gunn closed out June 5 by sharing an important post on his X (formerly Twitter) account, where he clarified that his forthcoming summer blockbuster, Superman, is finally ready to hit theaters.
In his latest update regarding Superman, he wrote, “Our last visual effect shot has been finished and dropped into #Superman. We are now 100% done.” The Guardians of the Galaxy director then expressed gratitude to all his associates who helped him realize his vision for the Man of Steel, noting, “Thanks to all my collaborators! It has been a joy. And for the rest of you – I can’t wait for you to see the movie July 11.”

In the build-up to the release of his much-awaited Superman movie, Gunn has continued to provide fans with significant details about the DCU project via his social media interactions. Prior to confirming that the film is 100% ready, Gunn squashed all the rumors regarding Superman’s runtime by revealing the exact time count himself. While replying to a fan query on Threads, the co-CEO of DC Studios stated, “Inclusive of credits/post credits the runtime is 2 hours 9 minutes.”
James Gunn also thwarted all concerns of corporate interference from Warner Bros., which seems to have plagued Zack Snyder’s now-defunct DCEU, by confirming that Superman’s shorter runtime is nothing but a creative decision. Denying that Warner Bros. pressured him to shorten the Superman film, Gunn noted, “Zero truth to that. And they couldn’t even if that’s something that they wanted to. It’s a DC Studios film.”
Featuring the likes of David Corenswet, Rachel Brosnahan, Nicholas Hoult, and Nathan Fillion, among others, the Superman movie is on track to fly into theaters on July 11, 2025.
