What Happened to Stedman Pearson? Five Star Singer Passes Away

Stedman Pearson, a member of the British pop group Five Star, passed away on March 10, 2025, with news of his death announced by his family. He was part of the successful sibling group known for their choreographed performances and chart-topping hits in the 1980s.

Here’s what we know so far about Stedman Pearson’s death.

Stedman Pearson passes away at 60, claims report

Stedman Pearson, a member of the British pop group Five Star, has died at the age of 60.

His family announced that he passed away on Monday and had been undergoing dialysis treatment for diabetes. Pearson was part of the band alongside his siblings Lorraine, Deniece, Doris, and Delroy. In a statement, his family described him as “a gentleman to the very end – in every way and an amazing son, brother, and uncle” (via BBC).

Five Star, often compared to The Jackson 5, became known for their synchronized dance routines and matching outfits. The band, formed by their father Buster Pearson in 1983, achieved significant success in the 1980s. Their 1986 album Silk and Steel reached number one on the UK charts, and they won a BRIT Award for Best British Group in 1987. Their top 10 hits included System Addict, Can’t Wait Another Minute, and Rain or Shine.

Five Star initially disbanded in 1995 but reunited in different line-ups over the years. They performed together again in 2001, and in 2012, the group reunited as a five-piece before continuing as a quartet after Lorraine’s departure in 2016. Stedman also made TV appearances, participating in The All Star Talent Show in 2006 and Celebrity Scissorhands in 2008.

Tributes have poured in following Pearson’s passing. Singer and songwriter Jaden Cornelius wrote on X, “He was one of the gentlest and loveliest people I knew… an awesome dancer with just a childlike zest for life.” Author David P. Perlmutter wrote, “Very sad to hear about the passing of Stedman Pearson of Five Star! I met him and the band years ago at a spa. They were so down to earth. RIP Stedman. No age at all. My age!”
