Alice Mak meets ethnic minorities

Secretary for Home & Youth Affairs Alice Mak today attended an engagement session for representatives of ethnic minorities (EMs) and relevant non-governmental organisations to brief them on policy measures related to the Home & Youth Affairs Bureau in the 2023 Policy Address.

During the session, Miss Mak outlined the key initiatives in the Policy Address on supporting EMs to integrate into the community, such as the Home Affairs Department’s plan to set up two additional support service centres for EMs, bringing the total number of such centres to 10.

She explained that each of the centres will be invited to set up one EM Care Team to proactively reach out to EM households with the aim of understanding their needs and introducing public services to them.

The participants welcomed the new initiatives in the Policy Address and gave their own advice and suggestions.

Apart from saying that the Government will continue to provide services and support to facilitate EMs’ integration into the local community and access to public services, Miss Mak thanked the attendees for their continuous support for racial harmony and reiterated the emphasis the Government has placed on supporting EMs.

Separately, as the 2023 District Council Ordinary Election is approaching, Miss Mak sought to explain the significance of the election and call on the participants and their families to cast their votes on December 10.

EMs are encouraged to join the activities organised by the District Council in order to build a caring and inclusive society, she added.
