Google expands OS upgrades to five years for Pixel 6, Pixel 7 and Pixel Fold

Google promised three years of OS support and five years of security updates for Pixel 6, Pixel 7 devices and the original Pixel Fold. Today, we learned that the company expanded the OS part to five years, and this includes all these devices:

The Pixel Tablet is not included in that list, and a separate support page reveals it will stick to the three-year OS and five-year security update plan.

Google was the trendsetter among Android makers, promising extended support, and now every major manufacturer does so. The new update means Pixel 6 devices will get Android 16 and Android 17, while Pixel 7 and Fold will reach Android 18 in 2027.

It is worth mentioning that any older phone than the Pixel 6 is no longer receiving Android or security updates; this includes all series from 1 to 5. Meanwhile, the Pixel 8 and Pixel 9 families are still up for seven years of updates unless Google decides to surprise us once again.
