Son of late Hong Kong tycoon Eric Hotung sued for more than HK$8 million in unpaid fees

A Hong Kong law firm has accused Anthony Hotung, the son of late billionaire Eric Hotung, of failing to pay more than HK$8 million (US$1 million) in outstanding legal fees and interest.

Anthony Hotung is being sued by Oldham, Li & Nie Solicitors over HK$4.4 million in unpaid legal fees accumulated from 2019 to 2023. The law firm represented him in a two-decade-long legal feud involving the family.

In a writ made public in the High Court on Monday, the plaintiff accused Anthony Hotung of failing to reply to them and settle outstanding invoices. Their relationship ended in October 2023, with Hotung said to have been acting in person since.

The law firm is also seeking HK$3.9 million in interest accrued from the unpaid amount.

In June 2006, Anthony Hotung took his father Eric and businesswoman Winnie Ho Yuen-ki, younger sister of late gaming tycoon Stanley Ho Hung-sun, to court over allegations about her breach of duty as a trustee and irregularities in the management of Hotung Investment (China).
