Chief Executive John Lee will lead a Hong Kong Special Administrative Region delegation to Beijing to participate in the third Belt & Road Forum for International Cooperation scheduled for October 17 and 18.

Mr Lee said that this year marks the 10th anniversary of the Belt & Road Initiative (B&RI), adding that the assembly is a key event of the country and an international forum at the highest level in promoting the initiative.  

“With the support of our country, I am honoured to lead the high-level delegation to proactively take part in the forum to showcase Hong Kong’s commitment to contribute to the joint development of the B&RI as advocated by the country.”

Led by the Chief Executive, official members of the delegation include six secretaries of departments and directors of bureaus, namely Financial Secretary Paul Chan, Secretary for Justice Paul Lam, Secretary for Constitutional & Mainland Affairs Erick Tsang, Secretary for Financial Services & the Treasury Christopher Hui, Secretary for Commerce & Economic Development Algernon Yau and Secretary for Innovation, Technology & Industry Prof Sun Dong.

Together with Commissioner of the Independent Commission Against Corruption Woo Ying-ming, Director of the Chief Executive’s Office Carol Yip, Head of the Chief Executive’s Policy Unit Stephen Wong and Commissioner for Belt & Road Nicholas Ho, a total of 11 senior government officials will take part in the forum.

In addition to senior government officials, the Hong Kong SAR delegation comprises 59 members from political and business sectors.

“The delegation will proactively share with the international community on Hong Kong’s strengths on various fronts, including our role as the prime functional platform in promoting the high-quality development of the B&RI, our professional services, as well as our unique advantage of enjoying strong support from the country and being closely connected to the world,” Mr Lee noted.

Mr Lee will return to Hong Kong on October 19.
