3 Year of the Horse 2026 events in Hong Kong to welcome the new year with a gallop

Hong Kong’s long affiliation with horses goes back to the mid-19th century, when the first official race meeting was held at the Happy Valley Racecourse in December 1846.

There are various equine-themed events planned around town to celebrate the coming Year of the Horse, both at and outside the racecourse. Here are three that are worth checking out.

1. Longines Hong Kong International Horse Show 2026

The Longines Hong Kong International Horse Show will return to the AsiaWorld-Expo in Chek Lap Kok from January 30 to February 1. It will feature competitions and activities suitable for the entire family.

This year, travel companies and hotels are offering all-inclusive travel and experience packages designed for all ages, blending equestrian sport with lifestyle and culinary enjoyment.

For groups of friends and equestrian enthusiasts, China Travel Service Hong Kong’s Package 8 offers show tickets, a dining experience, live professional commentary and an exclusive visit to Sha Tin Racecourse. More information can be found here.
JW Marriott Hotel Hong Kong is offering the JW Equestrian Sojourn room package. Perfect for couples, it combines tickets, luxury accommodation and a nostalgic tram ride to The Peak. More information can be found here.
