Two burglars who ransacked a luxury residence in Hong Kong’s New Territories are on the run after being spotted by a domestic worker, who screamed upon finding them inside the house in the early hours of Tuesday.
Police officers arrived at a detached house in the Baroque at 1-7 Kau To Shan Road in Sha Tin to investigate after receiving a report at 2.25am. They found a broken glass window and signs of ransacking in multiple rooms.
A police source said a foreign domestic helper living there checked around the house after hearing strange noises and discovered two men ransacking the living room. She screamed and the two suspects fled swiftly after. The helper then called police.
The insider added the homeowner, surnamed Shum, was not in Hong Kong at the time of the incident and the house was being looked after by the domestic worker.
The force said the two burglars were aged between 20 and 30 years old and had slim builds. They were wearing black clothing at the time of the incident.
Officers of Sha Tin district crime squad are investigating the case, with losses still being assessed.
