Josh Gad has given a huge update on Spaceballs 2, the long-awaited sequel to the classic 1987 space opera parody film, written and directed by Mel Brooks. This time, Brooks returns to reprise his character, but Josh Greenbaum directs the sequel. Gad recently revealed on social media that Spaceballs 2 has wrapped filming.

Spaceballs 2 wraps filming

The Frozen voice actor, who also serves as a writer alongside Benji Samit and Dan Hernandez, recently gave a huge update on Spaceballs 2. He took to social media to reveal that they had wrapped up the filming for the upcoming sequel and thanked everyone involved in the project.

“I cannot believe we are here. It really was Ludicrous speed, but that is an official picture wrap on #Spaceballs2,” Josh Gad revealed in his Facebook post. He went on to describe how the project came to be, saying, “3 years ago, I called Mel Brooks with an idea for a film forty years in the making. I could not believe he said yes. But more importantly, I cannot believe that we actually got to make it. This movie has been the greatest creative experience of my entire life. I cannot wait to share it with you all.”

Gad further praised Josh Greenbaum in the post. He wrote, “I would like to thank our incredible team led by one of the greatest directors I’ve ever had the privilege of knowing, @josh.greenbaum.”

Additionally, Gad named all the creatives and praised them for their hard work. He added, “The truth is, however, this entire crew was one for the ages, and every single department and department head transcended our greatest expectations.”

Moreover, Josh Gad went on to name the cast members, his co-writers, and finally Amazon MGM Studios. He ended the note by thanking Mel Brooks, stating, “Finally, to the great @officialmelbrooks who gave us the gift of Spaceballs and more importantly who gave me my love for comedy beginning at the age of five.”

Meanwhile, Spaceballs 2 is scheduled for a 2027 release.
