Arne Slot’s Reds looked on course for a second successive win in the Premier League when Hugo Ekitike scored a quick-fire brace at the start of the second half.
Leeds fought back in stunning fashion to level the match before Dominik Szoboszlai fired the visitors in front again with just 10 minutes remaining.
But Liverpool’s defensive frailties were exposed deep into stoppage-time as a corner fell kindly for substitute Tanaka to smash home for a vital point.

There was also late drama at Villa Park where Aston Villa’s Emiliano Buendia scored with the last kick of the game for a 2-1 victory over Arsenal which blows the Premier League title race wide open.
The defeat for Mikel Arteta’s team allowed Manchester City to cut Arsenal’s lead at the top of the Premier League to two points after they easily defeated Sunderland 3-0 on Saturday.
The highlight of City’s 3-0 win came when Phil Foden wrapped up the game with a header from an eye-popping rabona cross by Rayan Cherki.

Leeds United defender Gabriel Gudmundsson has been recognised for his sterling contribution to the club’s impressive 3-1 win over Chelsea in Matchweek 14.
The Swedish international was named Premier League Player of the Matchweek for his efforts in an official fan poll.
Gudmundsson (20 per cent) edged Arsenal’s Mikel Merino (19 per cent) for the top honour while Man City’s Phil Foden (18 per cent) finished third in a tight vote.

Chelsea’s influential midfielder Moises Caicedo has been named Player of the Matchweek for Premier League round 10.
The Ecuadorian topped the official Premier League fan poll for his dominant display in Chelsea’s 1-0 win at London rivals Tottenham last weekend.
“Caicedo delivered a trademark powerhouse performance,” wrote the Premier League. “He made two tackles and four interceptions, along with seven ball recoveries, with two of those interventions coming in one amazing sequence as he dispossessed both Djed Spence and Micky van de Ven and set up Joao Pedro to score the winning goal.”
The Chelsea star picked up 30 per cent of the vote but was closely followed behind by prolific Manchester City striker Erling Haaland, who garnered 23 per cent of the vote following his brace against Bournemouth.

Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah was voted the 2024-25 Men’s PFA Players’ Player of the Year. The 33-year-old Egyptian is the first player to win the prestigious award, which is voted by his peers, three times.
Salah was a worthy winner, after scoring 29 goals and creating 18 assists to lead Liverpool to the 2024-25 Premier League title.
“I look at myself now, a guy coming from Egypt and making it to the top level, making history today, it’s something that makes me so proud,” Salah said as he was presented with the award.
