Imagine someone telling you that when you grow up, you may never need to work. No homework, no jobs, no salaries — and everything you want would be free. Sounds like a video game cheat code, right? Well, that’s what Elon Musk, one of the richest people on Earth, recently said. Twice.
He thinks that in about 10–20 years, robots and AI will do all the work. According to him, humans can just chill — watch shows, travel, sleep, whatever. And money? He says it won’t matter anymore because everyone can get whatever they want.
Cool idea… but it’s almost definitely not happening.
Why? Because money actually solves a big problem: not everyone can have everything. If everyone wanted diamonds, private jets, and ocean-view villas, there wouldn’t be enough for all. Money helps people figure out what to choose, what to save for, and what really matters.
And work is important too. It gives people purpose, helps them learn skills, make friends, and yes — earn money. Even Musk himself used to brag about working 80–100 hours a week!
Plus, if humans stop working completely, AI would end up running everything — deciding rules, solving problems, and maybe even controlling our lives. If only a few humans controlled that AI, they would be more powerful than any king in history. Definitely not a great idea.
The truth is, many thinkers in the past — like Karl Marx and John Maynard Keynes — also dreamed of a world where machines do all the work. But those dreams stayed dreams.
So why is Musk talking about it? Probably because he wants people to buy lots of his robots, called Optimus. If those sell well, his company becomes more valuable.
In short: it’s a fun fantasy, but real life needs both work and money to stay fair and balanced. The future may have amazing robots, but it won’t be a giant free-for-all.
