Barcelona have no plans to reignite interest in La Liga ace with £55k-a-week Premier League player still top target

The attack was one of the strongest areas of the FC Barcelona team in the 2024-25 season, in which the Blaugranes won the La Liga, the Copa del Rey, and the Spanish Super Cup titles, while also reaching the semi-finals of the UEFA Champions League.

However, the Catalans are still looking to further reinforce the attack in this summer transfer window, and recent reports indicated that the Liverpool forward Luis Diaz is still their favorite candidate for this purpose.

Liverpool have, so far, refused to part ways with such an important player. However, the Blaugranes see this reluctance as normal, as they understand that there is still a long time left till the end of the summer transfer window.

Luis Diaz remains the preferred target for Barcelona

In fact, according to Mundo Deportivo, he is the only other option that remains a priority for Barcelona after the signing of Joan Garcia, and the Catalans have already ruled out resuming their pursuit of another winger, Nico Williams.

Furthermore, they also understand that Liverpool need to make money to make some of their own desired moves in the market, and would like to generate funds from the potential sale of a player who has already admitted that he is in talks with other clubs. Still, Diaz has also not ruled out the possibility of further extending his contract, which already goes till 2027.

Liverpool in need of funds

The Merseyside club is looking to sign the Bayer Leverkusen star Florian Wirtz as their statement signing this summer, and the Germans are demanding €130-150 million for him.

Furthermore, the Reds have already paid €40 million for the fullback Jeremie Frimpong, who will replace Trent Alexander-Arnold, who has already left for Real Madrid.

For now, it remains to be seen whether Liverpool will consider selling £55k-a-week Colombian winger and whether Barcelona can match their financial demands. However, according to the report from MD, Barcelona have ruled out the possibility of pursuing Nico Williams despite his strong performance in the Nations League semi-final against France.
